Eastern Equatoria government has instructed land owners in Torit town to pay an annual plot tax to control land especulation.
Caretaker state minister for Housing and Public Utility Mark Akio told Radio Emmanuel that the taxes were charged on land owned by the government.He said taxes ranged according to the classes of plots.
Mr Akio added that the taxes were meant to reduce land speculation among the people who own many plots.
He appealed to citizens of Eastern Equatoria State to pay taxes to the government for it to meet its obligations.
