Rumbek town Clerk told traders that the Town Council is in the process of improving sanitation in the capital of Lakes State.

Mabor Cawop Mabor told Good News Radio that Rumbek Town Council is determined to construct modern toilets to replace unhygienic pit latrines in the market.

He advised traders who are residing in their shops to rent houses in residential areas where there is proper sanitation.

He promised that the Council will deploy security personnel to guard the business district at night.

Mr Cawop assured traders that the Town Council will build at least ten flash toilets and bathrooms to enhance cleanliness as they are easier to maintain and dispose of waste.

The Kenyan Association Chairperson, Douglas Masafu, complained of poor sanitation in Rumbek.

He called on the Mayor to increase the number of toilets and employ sanitation officers to inspect cleanliness in the few existing public toilets.

Mr Masafu said the police was fining and arresting people caught during short calls in the market.

Rumbek Market currently has less than five public pit latrines that are not enough for the overwhelming number of traders and shopper in the market.
