A judge has sentenced a woman to five years in prison and a 11,000 South Sudanese pounds fine as compensation for an unclear offence.
Amoru Dut is in detention at Torit prison with her five children including a set nine-month old twins, Radio Emmanuel reported.The woman who has spent one year in detention say she does not know why she was given the sentence because she was not involve in the alleged theft.
She claims she is innocent.
She said Majir Jir accused her of stealing money, but the robber was his own 14-year old son and another 14-year old boy who stayed with her.
Ms Amoru said the boy divided the money, hid it in two separate places and disclosed one location.
The other parcel remained hidden inside her house without her knowledge.
Ms Amoru said the other boy who stayed with her later in the evening revealed the location of the remaining money, saying he was afraid he could be beaten.
Mr Majir three days later accused her of stealing the money.
Acting Director of Child Welfare in Eastern Equatoria ministry of Culture and Ssocial Development, Oting Elizeo, said he was concerned about the welfare of the five children.
A legal analyst said the sentence passed on Ms Amoru was unclear and doubtful, and the judgment could have been influenced since there was no substantive evidence linking Ms Amoru to the crime.
