A South Sudanese civil society umbrella group has urged the government to make public the oil deal with it signed Kenya following the crude production shutdown.
The Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kenya concerning the construction of a pipeline connecting South Sudan’s oil fields with the Kenyan port of Lamu.South Sudan Civil Society Alliance secretary general Biel Boutros Biel said during a press conference this morning that the oil is property of the people of South Sudan and the public has the right to know the terms, conditions and contracts accorded with Kenya.
Mr Biel said the MoU should be disclosed for the purpose of transparency.
He added that it was important to know who the ministers who signed the document were, what companies were involved together with financial terms and mutual benefits.
