The Voice of the Church in Juba is marking today six years of official broadcasting.

Archbishop Paolino Lukudu Loro of Juba blessed Bakhita Radio on February 8, 2007, in the presence of former directress Sr. Cecilia Sierra, Fr. Joe Vieira, Chief Editor of Catholic Radio Network, Sr. Elena Balatti, then the directress of the Catholic Radio Network, paramount chief Denis Dormalo, and the former minister of information Central Equatoria.

Emmanul Otto is a regular listener of Bakhita Radio. He said he has been impressed by the programmes the Voice of the Church broadcasts and praised its correct information and Juba Sunrise, his favourite programme.

He urged Bakhita staff to carry on with the work of enlightening the public especially through the news without fearing government’s interference.

Presenter Hannah Fiorentino said St Bakhita is working with the staff of her radio because they were able to overcome many difficulties and keep the station on air throughout the years.

Production manager Emmanuel Tombe said it was hard to start from nothing and reach the point where Bakhita Radio is.

He said Bakhita’s anniversary is like his own birthday.

Bakhita Radio was first tested on December 24, 2006, and on February 8 was officially inaugurated to become a station of reference in Juba and surroundings.
