Eastern Equatoria primary schools reopened yesterday and the authorities called on citizens to uphold education and join school.

State director for Alternate Education System Teresa Malia Aldo called on children who dropped out of school, girls who got pregnant and adults who missed getting education at an early age, to join the Accelerating Education System.

Ms Malia said the ministry of education designed the Accelerating Education Programme as a component of Alternate Education System to cater for the older citizens who have passed the age of going to primary school.

She explained that the programme runs for four years for students over 12 years of age.

Ms Malia noted that there are more girls than boys dropping out in primary schools.

She said the success of the Accelerated Education Programme depends on active and constant teachers.

Ms Malia said the military have a big drop out rate because they are transferred from one barrack to another without taking their final exams.
