Seventy nine people died when raiders from Unity State attacked Luanyjang payam, in Tonj East County of Warrap State, taking 17,000 heads of cattle.

Tonj South County commissioner Akec Tong Aleu told Radio Don Bosco that last week’s raid killed 79 people and injured 67.

The commissioner said he send medicines to assist the wounded people and asked the Red Cross and the South Sudan Relief and Rehabilitation Commission to assist the displaced with food and non-food items, including shelters and cloths.

Mr Tong also added that he sent police to East Tonj to try to stop the conflict before it may affect Tonj South County.

He said he will not deny support to other counties of Greater Tonj.

Mr Tong asked the national authorities to arbitrate between the warring communities to avoid more inter-communal violence like that of Jonglei State.

He urged people to stop conflict and put peace at the top of their hearts and minds.
