The President of the Republic today re-affirmed the government’s decision to close down oil pipelines following Khartoum’s adverse acts against South Sudan and its crude resources.
Addressing the cheering crowd outside the National Assembly, President Salva Kiir Mayardit said South Sudan shall work to find other alternatives to export its oil through other ports other than Sudan.He said the government shall do all that it can to keep the economy moving, including boosting agriculture till it found an alternative pipeline to export its oil to the world market.
President Kiir said the decision taken by Khartoum to forcefully confiscate the oil belonging to the Republic of South Sudan undermines the sovereignty of South Sudan.
He urged South Sudanese to stay calm and live in harmony with all Sudanese and other foreigners living in South Sudan.
President Kiir said the people of Sudan have no problem with the people of South Sudan but it was the National Congress Party in Khartoum that wanted to destroy the whole of Sudan.
He said services for the people of South Sudan shall continue as normal, and that the government will never give up.
