The President of the Republic has led the nation to declare his assets and liabilities and called on all government officials to do the same.

The Chairperson of National Anti Corruption Commission, Justice John Gatwech, said in a press conference today in Juba that all the staff from the presidency, including President Salva Kiir Mayardit, have submitted their assets declaration forms.

He said the forms were personally delivered by presidential legal advisor Tilal Riing.

Mr Gatwech also revealed that members of his commission have submitted their assets declaration forms too.

He said the commission was going to draft a penal law against people who are going to engage in corrupt practices.

Mr Gatwech explained that President Kiir last year issued a presidential decree ordering constitutional post holders and certain categories of public servants to declare their incomes, assets and liabilities.

He said the decree also prohibited government officials to engage in private business.

The Chairperson added that January 31 will be the last day for everyone in the category to submit their assets declaration forms.

The decision came after the international community and nationals accused the government of South Sudan of massive corruption.

South Sudan Transitional Constitution 2011 has given the Anti-Corruption Commission powers to arrest and prosecute anybody suspected of involvement in graft.
