The Government of South Sudan has said that it will carry a comprehensive disarmament in Jonglei to combat tribal raids and counter raids in the state.
The government on Wednesday declared Jonglei state as a disaster area following the recent clashes involving the Lou-Nurer and Murle communities.Information minister Barnaba Marial Benjamin told the press yesterday that the government through the council of ministers has adopted a resolution to carry out what he described as a comprehensive disarmament in the whole state.
Dr Marial said the comprehensive state-wide programme is to be put in place through the national organized forces with the aid of line ministries to provide the logistics to the forces assigned to carry the task.
He added that the whole Jonglei State needed relief assistance of food, shelter and medicines from the international community.
