Residents of Torit, the capital of Eastern Equatoria, are scared with some stories of imported bottled water suspected to contaminated.
SPLM Eastern Equatoria state secretary Felix Okanyi is among several citizens alarmed over the suspected bottled water, Radio Emmanuel reported.He told the press that there is need for consumers to be vigilant as some traders could have tempered with Ugandan bottled water by injecting unclear substances on the bottles.
He said he bought some bottles of water and one was leaking.
He added that a friend of his wife cautioned her to check the water for safety by pressing the bottle before opening it and discovered that the bottle was sprinkling water like a sprayer.
The Chairperson of Eastern Equatoria Chamber of Commerce, Abraham Odong, admitted receiving media reports from Juba regarding the sale of fake water in markets.
He cautioned consumers not to use anything they buy from the market but consider checking standards of goods first.
Eastern Equatoria health minister Sam Felix Makuja said he did not receive any report on contaminated bottled water on sale in Torit.
He added that if such information is correct, the suppliers will face legal charges.
Mr Makuja said the Government will take the issue seriously and inspect bottled water on sale in Torit.
He expressed the need to team up with the commerce to find out whether such goods are standard.
