Priests should be available to work for the salvation of all without any kind of distinction and willing to sacrifice themselves following the example of Jesus, a leading cleric said.

Fr. Hillary Morbe, Chairman of the Priests Association in Juba Archdiocese, told the participants who attended a meeting on the Year of the Priests this morning that the clergy has to be universal in its outlook.

Fr. Morbe said the priest has to learn from Jesus and be ready to make sacrifices.

He added it is easier to be a priest than to be a loving pastor.

Fr. Morbe explained that the Mass is a mystery that reminds priests of the need to sacrifice and meet temptations they face like working for money, bossing over the community, refusing to learn other tribe’s language.

The chairman of the Priests Association made these statements while presenting a paper titled “Priests: Loving pastors of the Flock” to 30 diocesan and religious clergy operating in the archdiocese of Juba.

The presentation was followed by a period of debate where participants talked about the care for one another and for oneself and the role of priests during the elections campaign among other issues.

The participants evoked late Monsignor Constantino Pitiya, especially his concern for young priests who were leaving active ministry.
