The Lou Nuer said they were drawn into a defensive war to revenge their dear ones and asked the UN and the army to protect their children and women from Murle attacks.
The Lou Nuer Youth in Pibor County issued yesterday a message to the President of the Republic, Salva Kiir Mayardit, saying their action against Murle was not their choice but a defensive war that was triggered by their neighbours.Over 6,000 Lou Nuer warriors attacked Pibor town on Saturday sending tens of thousands of Murle people into the bush for protection.
The letter says if the Government of the Republic of South Sudan is willing to protect the life of Murle civilians from the Lou Nuer, the SPLA troops and the UN peacekeepers should provide the protection to Lou Nuer children too.
It added that on Saturday and Sunday Murle warriors attacked Lou Nuer settlements in Akobo West and Waat, killing five people.
The Commissioner of Akobo told The Citizen that the attackers could be SPLA deserters.
The letter asks the SPLA not to return fire at Lou Nuer warriors otherwise they will be considered enemies.
