South Sudan has accused the Sudanese Government of recruiting by force South Sudanese youths still living and studying in the country to join rebel groups that have been fighting against the Government of South Sudan.

National Information minister Barnaba Marial Benjamin told the press today in Juba the claims were made by some students and investigations are still underway.

The minister added that his government will make a formal protest against what he called appalling practice.

Earlier, SPLA spokesperson Colonel Phillip Aguer Panyang told CRN News over the phone that more than 500 youths were taken by force to join rebel movements and that in some cases their families can free them by paying some money.

Sources from Khartoum said the recruitment was being coordinated by late rebel leader George Athor and involves Nuer militias who are also targeting vehicles with GoSS number plates in the streets of Khartoum.
