THOUSANDS PAY TRIBUTE TO BUDI COUNTY LATE PARAMOUNT CHIEF

Over of one thousand people turned up at Chukudum to pay tribute to late Didinga-Buya paramount chief alternate commander Joseph Nakuwa who passed on in 1999.

Eastern Equatoria state governor Louis Lobong Lojore presided as the chief guest at Mr. Nakuwa’s reburial ceremony whose remains were relocated for a state burial in Chukudum, Radio Emmanuel reported.

State ministers and members of the state and national assemblies were among the of people who convened to pay tribute to the late paramount chief.

The remains of Mr. Nakuwa were exhumed from Himan on Friday and it spent the night at his ancestral home in Lorema-Lotukei Payam, in Budi County.

On Saturday afternoon, the casket arrived in Chukudum accompanied by choirs, the parish priest, organize forces and representatives of development partners.

Joseph Lokodo, a Member of Eastern Equatoria state Parliament representing Lauro Constituency in Budi County, told the press that the late alternate Commander Nakuwa was a great man.

He remembered the deceased chief led the Buya and Didinga peoples into peaceful coexistence with the neighbouring communities.

The Didinga-Buya paramount chief died during the freedom struggle while pursuing peace between the communities and the SPLA forces.

He is survived by four wives, 22 children and a dozen grand children, scattered over Africa, America, and Europe.

A send off mass was held at Chukudum Parish Church in memory and for the late paramount chief, alternate commander Nakuwa.
