An advocacy group has called for transparency and inclusiveness in the permanent Constitution process that should kick off in January.

Richard Nuccio, National Democratic Institute Resident Director, said NDI will make sure all citizens in South Sudan participate in the constitutional process expected for January next year.

He admitted that there are many challenges facing the country but it is very important to make citizens part of the constitutional process in order to have a widely accepted supreme law in the country.

Dr Nuccio said it was important to ensure that the Constitution can be accessible in audio format and in indigenous languages for a better participation.

He added that NDI will work with the national government and civil society groups to help citizens understand the Constitution review process and take part in the constitutional debate.

The NDI official warned that it is not enough to have a well written Constitution, but its values have to be adopted by the citizens in their daily lives to regulate relationships.

Dr Nuccio was speaking at the opening of a two-day workshop on civic consultation and citizen engagement on the constitutional development processes that opened today in Juba.
