South Sudan Parliamentary Forum for Children members started today a two-day training session to launch the body aiming to defend child rights in the Legislative Assembly.

Steve Morgan, country director for Save the Children in South Sudan, said during the opening ceremony that the training is aiming at forming a parliamentary forum for children with a group of lawmakers who advocate for child rights in the House.

He added that the forum should ensure good governance and children’s rights in terms of service delivery and a transparent decision making process.

MP Mary Nawai said children are one of the vulnerable groups in South Sudan and they should be protected.

She urged the lawmakers to represent the children in the House because they are part of the constituencies.

Ms. Nawai added that MPs should check if the nation budget is child friendly by allotting money for schools and other needs children have.

The training for the South Sudan Parliamentary Forum for Children is an initiative of Save the Children.
