The Catholic diocese of Tombura-Yambio will see its clergy strengthened with tomorrow’s ordination of five new priests, an event that prepares the centenary celebrations of evangelization in the area.
Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro of Tombura-Yambio invited Cardinal John Njue, the archbishop of Nairobi, to ordain the five deacons to the priesthood.The deacons to be ordained priests are Alfred Basana from Nzara, Raphael Ddiko from Ezo, Matthew Bagare from Tombura, and Joachim Oboi and Luke Yugue from Ngboko.
Seminarian Habeel Vongele will be ordained deacon for the diocese of El Obeid, in the Sudan.
In the same ceremony over 600 women will commit themselves to follow the example of the Mother of God by joining the Legion of Mary.
A Centenary Cross will be blessed during tomorrow’s celebration.
The Cross will move from parish to parish from tomorrow until December 12, 2012, when the Centenary Celebration of Yambio’s evangelization concludes in Mupoi, the first mission the Comboni Missionaries opened in the area 99 years ago.
Visitors are arriving in Yambio from different parts of the diocese, Juba, Torit and Uganda to take part in the celebrations.
