Wau residents yesterday morning marched through the streets in protest against the bombings by SAF Antonovs north of Raja two weeks ago. The move came as a reaction to the insecurity created by the attack in Western Bahr El Ghazal.
The participants left Wau’s Peace Square and reached the Council of Ministers building where they presented their grievances to Governor Rizik Zachariah, Radio Voice of Hope reported.The people of Wau condemned the bombardments at the border between Sudan and South Sudan, particularly in Western and Northern Bahr Ghazal states.
They requested the government of South Sudan to deploy SPLA forces in the border areas, especially north of Huflat Nahas.
The civilians also demanded that the government of Khartoum stopped bombardments inside South Sudan.
Governor Zachariah congratulated the people of Wau for their commitment towards peace and security.
He stated that President Omar Al Bashir he will not be able to interfere with South Sudan because he has been declared an international criminal and soon he will have to answer for his actions.
Mr Zachariah added that a public committee was formed to support the SPLA in the border areas where there is insecurity.
Raja county commissioner Rizik Domic said in a phone call that SAF is building up its presence in areas along the border of Raja County and recruiting new militias.
He reported that there were no casualties from the bombings.
Mr. Domic added that the situation in the area is calm and people in Raja have not abandoned their homes.
