OFFICIAL CALLS ON CANDIDATES TO REFRAIN FROM INCITING HATRED

A national elections commissioner has called upon all contesting candidates to refrain from inciting hatred that could lead to elections violence.

Akolda Man Tier addressed participants during the closing ceremony of the Second ministerial coordination workshop.

Mr. Man said candidates must never incite hatred whether religious or racial.

He added that their statements should not defame people and they should respect the privacy of other candidates.

Mr. Man called upon the media not to engage in censorship. He added it is up to the courts to judge whatever is illegal and act accordingly.

Mr. Man called for peaceful campaign and elections.
