Eastern Equatoria state caretaker governor has called on the Catholic Church to help the government through education in order to transform South Sudan.
Johnson Juma Okot made the call yesterday while opening the annual assembly of the Diocese of Torit at Fr. Saturnino’s Hall, in Torit town, Radio Emmanuel reported.Mr. Okot told the participants that he was grateful for the services provided by the Catholic Church to the people in the region adding that the clergy are the first element for peace in the country.
Mr. Okot urged the Church to help in the proper conduct of the elections.
The caretaker governor mentioned his commitment and the SPLM mandate to maintain security and curb violence by deploying the organized forces to oversee the April 11 elections.
Mr. Okot also reiterated his concerns over rampant incidents of cattle rustling in the region that he attributed to the youth.
