Eastern Equatoria minister for education has appealed to parents and other partners to give priority to girl child education in the state noting that here is a big unbalance in the schools’ population.

Michael Lopuke Lotyam emphasized that girls should have equal education opportunities for the development of the new nation, Radio Emmanuel reported.

Mr. Lopuke said South Sudan can achieve a healthy environment by putting more effort on female education.

He admitted that there are many challenges to girls’ education.

Mr. Lopuke explained that girls are seen by some communities as an economic asset and not human beings that have the right to education.

He added that sometimes schools are too far and it is too dangerous for girls to attend them.

Mr. Lopuke was talking about poor performance of female pupils in Eastern Equatoria.
