AMDISS, the Association of Media Development in South Sudan, renewed its commitment to work hard in order to get the three media bills passed into laws.

AMDISS Chairperson Jacob Akol told CRN News today in Juba that his organization was negotiating with the top leadership in the country to make sure that the media bills are passed to regulate the work of journalists, media houses and authorities.

He said few ministers are blockading the media bills because they do not like the idea of a free press and the right to access information.

Mr Akol added that the times of the interim period are over, and the government should know that the lack of media laws is of a huge concern for international partners, including the US and the UK.

Mr Akol warned that the media laws are not something between the government and the journalists alone, but they also involve the higher interests of citizens who want to assist the new nation.

He was speaking after his opening remarks at the AMDISS Annual General Assembly that is taking place in Juba today and tomorrow.
