Hundreds of Catholics turned up at Our Lady of Assumption Parish Church in Torit for a mass in memory of late Fr. Andrew Madrama, the Peace, Justice and Reconciliation coordinator of the Catholic Diocese of Torit.
Fr. Madrama passed away on Monday at Mulago Hospital, in Kampala-Uganda, of cancer.Bishop Johnson Akio Mutek of Torit, said in a condolence message read to the Christians during the memorial mass that Fr. Madrama served Christians of South Sudan in Acholi Pii and Kiryadongo settlements in Uganda, Iboni and Nimule parishes in the Catholic Diocese of Torit, Radio Emmanuel reported.
Before his death, Fr. Andrew Madrama was the Coordinator for Peace and Justice in the Catholic Diocese of Torit.
Bishop Akio lamented the constant loss of the clergy by death saying the people of South Sudan mourned many of their beloved during the two decades civil war.
He added that he prays to God to allow the people a rest from death in order to celebrate joy and love.
Fr. Kamilo Ofere, who took over Iboni parish from Fr. Madrama, described the deceased as a courageous priest, loved all over Lopit area where he travelled the mountainous terrains on foot to serve the Lord.
Fr. Madrama was laid to rest at Metu Catholic Parish Church in Arua Diocese, Moyo district of Uganda.
