People with disabilities have been denied their fundamental rights of education and employment in South Sudan due to lack of facilities and government leadership.

Edem Erico Anthony, deputy chairperson of the Visually Impaired Union in Central Equatoria, told CRN News that people with disabilities are facing tremendous human rights challenges.

He said education is a fundamental constitutional right that it is denied to people with disabilities in South Sudan.

Mr Erico added that there are no schools for people with visual and hearing problems and mentally disabled persons, and few physically handicapped people go to schools.

He complained that persons with physical disabilities find difficulty to access public facilities because the steps are too high and toilets too small.

Mr Erico added that visually impaired persons cannot access internet because there are no special computers for their use.

Mr Erico said people with disabilities are discriminated against in the job market because adverts always say the jobs are for physically fit persons.
