A member of Eastern Equatoria State Assembly has urged the Government of South Sudan to pass laws pushing citizens to farm in order to save the new nation from the current economic and food crisis.

Chief whip Tobiolo Oromo, an MP from Ikwoto County, said lazy people should not receive food as St Paul writes in the New Testament’s letter to the people of Thessalonica, Radio Emmanuel reported.

He added that South Sudan has natural resources, fertile land and water full of fish that many people refuse to use for their benefit.

Mr. Oromo said farming laws should be passed by the government and implemented by local chiefs.

He added that everybody should work in order to fill the food gap in South Sudan.

The chief whip, who advocates for the economic independence of South Sudan through agriculture, is one of the progressive farmers in Eastern Equatoria.

He chairs the Chafi-Chafi Farmers Association, in Hatire Payam.
