Women leaders drawn from all parishes in the Catholic Diocese of Rumbek started yesterday a ten-day workshop on trauma healing and peace building.

The second annual diocesan women’s workshop is expected to equip the 22 participants with practical skills on community peace building and to heal their bodies and hearts from war trauma.

Kaitlyn Kjantzi, the diocesan women coordinator, told Good News Radio that the participants will be expected to use the skills acquired during the workshop to train other women in their respective parishes.

Ms. Kjantzi said women are also involved in education and income generation activities.

She added that women play an important role in society and pointed out that empowered women have the potential to educate their children and the community at large.

She said the workshop was in line with the dream of late Bishop Cesar Mazzolari of Rumbek, who believed in the empowerment of women.

Ms. Kaitlyn highlighted the need for prioritizing trauma healing before moving to development initiatives.

Rose Nyadiar, who is attending the workshop, said it has helped her to understand the causes of trauma.

She explained that the workshop equips the participants with skills to cope with effects of the trauma from war and inter clan conflicts and to learn how to live together in peace.

The participants were invited through the women groups at parish level. Each parish sent three representatives.
