Youth groups from Greater Bahr El Ghazal are organising a strategic planning conference to tackle a wide variety of issues including peace building, security, employment, education and health.

Angok Arthur Akuien Chol, the chairperson of the initiative, announced this evening in Juba that the youth strategic and planning conference will take place on November 24 to 27 in Aweil, the capital of Northern Bahr El Ghazal state.

He said the convention will be a major initiative to promote peace, unity and sustainable development in the South Sudan.

Mr Arthur added that the convention will focus on the youth in Greater Bahr El Ghazal to see how they can contribute positively towards a long lasting future of the new republic.

Mr Arthur stressed that the convention will be a forum for the youth to identify challenges and opportunities and come up with suggestions that can help build the country.

He said he expected about 150 people to attend the event, including 25 representatives from each of the four states of Greater Bahr El Ghazal.

Earlier in the week, representatives from youth groups of Western Bahr El Ghazal, Warrap and Lakes states announced they would boycott the Aweil Conference because the organizers were not transparent about objectives and financing.
