20 civil society groups in northern DR Congo, Central African Republic, and South Sudan wrote to President Salva Kiir Mayardit, calling his attention to the ongoing atrocities committed by the Ugandan rebels in the three countries.

The letter asked the South Sudanese government for a comprehensive approach and strategy on the LRA, the Lord’s Resistance Army, which involves meaningful collaboration with regional and international partners.

The document, published in the Human Rights Watch website, welcomed the announcement by the United States government to send 100 well-equipped military advisors to counter the LRA and help protect civilians.

The letter recommended that the government o South Sudan should work together with US troops deployed in the region, offer timely and adequate logistical support and additional military equipment to the SPLA forces, take a lead in civilian protection and advanced relief preparedness through humanitarian NGOs for IDPs and ex-combatants.

It also recommended that there should be fruitful communication between the SPLA forces and the popular defense groups, the Arrow Boys, and with the national armies of DR Congo and Central African Republic in their LRA-affected areas.
