The Government of South Sudan has confirmed the arrest of Peter Abdulrahman Sule, the former UDF leader, along with six members of his new military movement.

Information Minister Barnaba Marial Benjamin told journalists that Mr. Abdulrahman was captured in an SPLA ambush on Thursday.

He said three rebels, including a commanding officer who was a major in SPLA, Emmanuel Joseph Laku, and one SPLA soldier were killed in the clash and three more wounded.

Dr. Marial added that Mr. Abdulrahman recruited 40 men into his armed movement in Rokon, Central Equatoria, and then he moved to Tulyang and finally moved to another site waiting for ammunitions to be drop from a foreign country he contacted.

UDF members disowned Mr. Abdulrahman’s leadership and promised to conduct elections to choose a new leader.
