The Catholic auxiliary bishop of Khartoum has noted that the April general elections might create tension since both the government of Southern Sudan and of National Unity have closed their eyes on important issues.

Bishop Daniel Adwok Kur told SCR News that both governments have not addressed the contested census results and the war in Darfur among other issues.

Bishop Adwok added that there are signs that the elections process is being marked by some violence and poor representation by both governments.

He added that the governments have to control their own military and police forces to address the question of political harassment that is taking place.

Bishop Adwok called on both governments to ensure free and fair elections and to honour their commitment to the CPA.

The auxiliary bishop of Khartoum added that the election process is the first step towards democracy, peace and justice in the country.

Bishop Adwok was speaking at the sidelines of a workshop on Justice and Peace, organized by the Sudan Catholic Bishops Conference that is taking place in Juba.
