Eleven pioneer students at Rumbek Nursing School, two of them female, are among the candidates sitting for the national exams for all health officials in South Sudan.
Rumbek Nursing School Deputy Director Judith Agwer told Good News Radio that the students have been following a two-and-half year programme in Certified Community Nursing and the exam that started yesterday will have theoretical and practical tests.
She expressed optimism that all the pioneer students will succeed in the examination to offer services to the new nation which is in dire need of health personnel.
Ms. Agwer described this development as a great achievement for not only Lakes State but also the Republic of South Sudan.
One of the pioneer students, Shadrach Nuer Machut, said he was confident that he would succeed in the exam, explaining that his teachers covered the entire curriculum.
He said that the task will now be upon the Government to see how they can be intergraded in the community to offer health services especially in the rural areas.
Mr. Nuer encouraged young people to enrol for training in community nursing.
The exams started yesterday and conclude Monday.
All the eleven pioneer students hail from Lakes State, six of them from Mapuordit, Yirol West County.
