Forces that were loyal to a Unity State rebel leader are being reintegrated into the national army and the process is going on well.

Army spokesman Colonel Phillip Aguer, told yesterday the press that forces loyal to General Peter Gadet are being reintegrated in Mapel, Western Bahr el Ghazal, into the SPLA proper.

He added that not all rebels who fought with late Gatluak Gai have reached Mapel yet for reintegration.

Col. Aguer explained that the former rebels are being classified to sort out who had military training and the civilians who took up arms.

He said the political and military leadership will decide how to reintegrate the former rebels in the SPLA or into civil life.

General Peter Gadet started the South Sudan Liberation Movement last March with the Mayom Declaration after defecting to Khartoum via Kenya.

Later, he accepted President Salva Kiir’s amnesty but a section of his forces did not follow him and last Saturday attacked Mayom, in Unity State, killing over 60 people.
