The Catholic Bishop of Torit announced he is sending a delegation to mediate a peaceful resolution for the conflict that opposes two communities in Magwi County, Eastern Equatoria State.

Ma’di and Acholi communities claim ownership of Ame Junction and four people were already killed in two separate incidents.

Bishop Akio Johnson Mutek recorded an audio message urging the two communities to stop hostilities, Emmanuel Radio reported.

He announced that he is sending a team of clerics to meet the two communities in a bid to resolve the land ownership issue peacefully.

Meanwhile, he called for calm and understanding.

Bishop Akio urged the people from both communities to return to their homesteads to a peaceful co-existence as they are living together and intermarrying for decades.

The Bishop said people the two communities should manage the conflict locally and rebuild their relationship.

Bishop Akio reminded the people that the two-decade civil war that claimed a huge number of lives has just finished.

He said this is the time to mourn loved ones who died in the liberation struggle and not to start new conflicts.
