The Catholic Bishop of El Obeid, in Sudan, expressed concern about the critical situation in his diocese, explaining that all the hot areas in the Sudan fall under his pastoral care: South Kordofan, Blue Nile, Darfur and Abyei.

Bishop Macram Max Gassis said the civil population is bearing all the consequences of these conflicts through suffering and death, Voice of Hope reported.

Bishop Macram said there is no armed solution for the conflicts in the Sudan.

He added that the parties need to sit down and negotiate a political solution in a civilized manner.

He underline that nobody tolerates violations of human dignity and rights.

The Bishop of El Obeid said the demand for self determination expressed by the Nuba people should be respected and encouraged.

He urged the Nuba people to remain united in order not to be used by Khartoum to kill one another.

Bishop Macram made these statements in Wau where he is attending the Catholic Bishops’ plenary.
