Food security in South Sudan has become a big problem and its should be addressed as an emergency situation to avoid further problems.

The Chairman of South Sudan Agricultural Producers Union, Aggrey Ezbon Idri, told Bakhita Radio that many families in South Sudan are spending the day without food due to high prices.

He said agriculture should be prioritized by actions not words and agriculture should be the second priority after security, citing that hungry children cannot go to school and hungry people are highly exposed to diseases.

Mr. Ezbon explained that hunger could be arrested through the adequate use of the available land and irrigation schemes along the White Nile.

He said mechanized and commercial agriculture could boost food production in the country.

Mr. Ezbon warned that if the food situation continues to deteriorate in South Sudan it can trigger an uprising just it is happening in the Arab World.
