A resident of Rumbek said the Church and media have the ability to fight against corruption, calling on Church leaders to spearhead the war against this socio-economic malaise affecting South Sudan.

Gabriel Ruon Deng described corruption as one of the pandemic affecting South Sudan, maintaining that dealing with it requires a concerted approach involving members of parliament, the youth, the media and especially the Church.

He appealed to both private and government-owned media houses in South Sudan to carry out extensive coverage on corruption.

Mr. Ruon mentioned that media practitioners in South Sudan have not come out strong enough on corruption cases.

He further challenged the youth to give constructive criticisms, revealing that some accusations levelled against leaders are based on gossip and falsehood.

A section of Lakes State youth dubbed “Open Parliament” has come out strongly to chastise Lakes State government for its failure to deal with graft, a stance that has resulted in the arrest of some of the outspoken youth.
