The head of chancery in the Ugandan consulate of Juba said that GoSS ministry of Finance and Economic Planning will start paying debts to Ugandan nationals who supplied food and other materials to the government.

Among the traders are the dura contractors to whom GoSS government owes millions of Sudanese pounds.

The ministry offered dura contracts to a number of companies in the last three years and most of the contractors had not yet received their pay.

Migadde Habib confirmed to SCR News that there are arrangements to pay food suppliers a partial amount of what they demand from the government of Southern Sudan within one week.

In Gulu, Ugandan traders who supplied GoSS with food and non-food items, are registering with the office of the Gulu Resident District Commissioner in order to receive their dues.

Many GoSS suppliers borrowed money from banks in order to fulfil their contracts and because they were not paid yet they run the risk of losing their houses over defaulted loans.
