The head of Eastern Equatoria State High Election Committee has appealed to all who run for executive and legislative positions in the April 11 elections to conduct a clean and peaceful campaign.

Mr. Joseph Ojukwu advised political candidates from the various parties to avoid character assassination and false accusations against their opponents during the time of campaign, saying ill talks contravene electoral regulations, Radio Emmanuel reported.

He added that those who speak evil of their opponents can be brought to court.

Mr. Ojukwu advised political candidates to limit their campaign to inform voters about their developmental programmes and projects concerning security issues and leave out personal attacks.

Mr. Ojukwu urged candidates to refrain from using of abusive language and avoid causing tension and conflict.

He says whoever contradicts the legal election guidelines may face the courts of law.

Mr. Ojukwu added that discrediting a competitor for a political position does not guarantee changing the mindset of the voters.

National Election Commission on Saturday last week declared the electoral campaign opened for every political candidate contesting for the April 11 elections.
