The vice president of the Republic has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to confront HIV AIDS in South Sudan.
Dr. Riek Machar Teny made the commitment at the opening of a three-day workshop organised by the South Sudan AIDS Commission.Esterina Novello, who heads the commission, thanked the government of South Sudan for placing 35 million Pounds to treat the disease.
She said the global theme for this year is the three Zeros which stand for Zero infection, Zero discrimination and Zero dead.
Dr. Novello said that discrimination impedes the treatment of AIDS because it makes HIV positive people to hide.
She added discrimination has to be fought because it allows the spread of AIDS.
Dr. Novello urged all women who plan to get pregnant to turn up for voluntary testing to know their status and seek medical advice to protect mother to child infection.
AIDS is the new war South Sudanese have to fight to assure a healthier future.
