A Juba waste management company says the unwillingness of most Juba residents to use the garbage collection services is a major threat to the “Keep Juba Clean” initiative.

The operation manager of the Southern Express Waste Company, George Vassili, spoke to Sudan Radio Service last week and said the residents think garbage collection is the role of government.

The deputy director at the Directorate of Hygiene and Sanitation, Achuoth Makuach, at the GoSS Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources, confirmed that it is not the government’s responsibility to ensure the residential areas are clean.

Mr. Makuach said people should rise to the occasion and ensure that they clean their residential areas.

GoSS Minister of Housing’s Director of Environment, David Batali, condemned the burning of waste, saying it is harmful to people’s health.
