Yei is joining the world’s celebration of Democracy Day with a public lecture and a rally at Freedom Square.
The Institute for the Promotion of Civil Society in partnership with RECONCILE, the Yei Community Resource Centre, and Justice Africa is organizing a rally and public lecture to celebrate the values of democracy.The rally is held at Yei’s Freedom Square from 8:00 AM onwards.
Yei Youth Center hosts the public lecture and community debates on “Federalism or Not; which way forward for South Sudan”.
The lecture, given by Maulana Robert Ladu Lwoki, a legal scholar and the Chairperson of the South Sudan Lands Commission, starts at 4:40 PM.
Hanna Logan from Justice Africa said the celebration is also an occasion for the people of Yei to come into contact with their elected officials.
The International Day of Democracy represents an opportunity to civil society organizations, human rights activists and governments to reflect on both the theory and practice of democratic governance.
