Residents in Malakal, Upper Nile, blame muddy roads and stagnant waters on lack of development in their city.

Malakal is built upon muddy land along the White Nile River and its streets are in a very poor state without water drainage systems.

Peter Owor told Voice of Love FM that the government has to be blamed for muddy roads in town.

He added that roads are impassable because of mud.

Mr. Owor said muddy streets make it very difficult to attend offices in morning by car or even on foot.

Sunday Tupac Akol said she has no any problem with the muddy roads because it is her country.

She asked people to bear the situation and hope that development and better roads reach Malakal.

A driver who did not want to reveal his name said it was difficult to drive on Malakal streets.

Some buses got stuck and others have stopped operating because they cannot make it on muddy roads.

He asked the government to build proper roads and supply fuel for drivers to make their work easier.

Many citizens said the government should dig water channels to drain the town into the Nile and construct good internal roads.
