Some 4000 women of Nuba Mountains are working together to overcome many long-lasting problems that have been affecting them through an association that provides them with a common vision by learning together and working together.
Ms. Zeinab added that Ru’ya Association was developed in 2001 by graduate women from Nuba Mountains with a system that helps organising women at grassroots by supporting each other. She explained that women who adhere to Ru’ya Association are organised in Women Solidarity Fund groups. Each group is made up of 30 to 45 women and meets once a week at each other’s house.
The women discuss issues related to gender and their participation in decision making process.
Ms. Zeinab said the groups are an exercise of democracy, transparency, participation and advocacy for themselves and for their children.
Each woman brings to the meeting her participation either in kind of cash.
Ms. Zeinab added that women get involved in peace building, and that women are ambassadors of peace.
There are some 170 Women Solidarity Fund groups operating across Nuba Mountains. Ms. Zeinab said Ru’ya Association plans to expand the groups to other counties in the region.
