God passes in the life of the Church and of his people through events and the faithful need the grace is to be aware of God’s visits and take something out of them.

This was the main message Bishop Erkolano Lodu Tombe left this morning during the opening mass at the plenary of South Sudan Catholic Bishops in Juba.

Bishop Erkolano said great things are happening in South Sudan and the bishops’ meeting is an event in the life of the Church and in the new nation.

He urged the participants to be tuned in order to identify God’s passage and his message to the Church during the bishops’ meeting.

Bishop Erkolano said God continues to be with the people of South Sudan.

He said God took good care of his people and the referendum went very well.

He added that the independence of South Sudan affected the structures of the Catholic Church in both countries and the bishops have to find answers to the new challenges.

The bishops and heads of diocese in South Sudan started today a three-day meeting to reflect on the new realities of the country and set up a bishops’ secretariat for South Sudan.

The bishops will issue a public statement at the end of the meeting.
