South Sudan Traffic Police has banned foreigners from commercial driving blaming them for the high rate of accidents in Juba.

Molana Bingo, an Ugandan driver, told SCR News that the ban started yesterday when traffic officers asked foreign drivers to pay money or park their vehicles.

He added that some Ugandan drivers ended up at the police station and were beaten if they refused to bribe the policemen.

Bogere Farouk is another driver that was beaten by the traffic officers yesterday.

He said he was beaten when he tried to inquire the details of the ban.

Sergeant Ben Pap, a traffic officer, said over the phone that the order was issued last week to stop accidents in Juba.

He added that foreign drivers cause many accidents and then ran away.

Sargent Pap said the order was issued by the Director of Traffic Police Kon John.

The Traffic Police passed a similar order in 2009 banning all foreign from carrying out commercial driving in South Sudan.
