Militias and Sudanese forces are still targeting Abyei displaced trying to return to their ancestral homelands.

The alert comes from Kwaja Yai, Abyei Start-up Emergency Project Coordinator. He told Bakhita Radio that pro-Khartoum militias and soldiers are hunting Abyei residents who try to go back.

Mr. Yai added that some militias loyal to Thomas Thiel identify and arrest Ngok Dinka residents.

He said Mr. Thiel, a Southerner from Warrap, is trying to please his masters in Khartoum by arresting, killing, torturing and raping the people of Abyei.

Mr. Yai said the people of Abyei live in a miserable situation continuing to live as IDPs in South Sudan while facing food shortages and other problems.

He called on the government of South Sudan to pressure the international community to force Khartoum to implement agreements it signed and withdraw its forces from the area.

The Sudanese Armed Forces occupied Abyei in early May and over 150 thousand residents sought refuge in South Sudan.
