Radio is a powerful means that can build or destroy people, a church official said.
Bishop Macram Max of Nuba Mountains made this statement yesterday while blessing Radio Voice of People in Gidel.
Bishop Macram told staff and guests, who attended the official blessing, that radio is a powerful means for shaping a better society.
Bishop Macram added that Radio Voice of Peace deals with moral and spiritual formation and promotes local culture, and urged the staff of Voice of Peace to form themselves in order to help people grow.
He asked the station to enter into the problems of society and tackle bad things, like lack of respect for nature, abortion, cultural attitudes that discriminate women.
Voice of Peace is on air since April 22, 2009.
Sr. Mary Carmen Galicia Alfaro, the directress of Voice of Peace, told SCR News that the greatest achievement was keeping the station on air seven hours per day since June, in a very remote and underdevelo ped area of Sudan.
She added that the local authorities and expatriate doctors, nurses and teachers are very supportive and assist in the preparation of programs.
Sr. Mary Carmen thanked Sudan Catholic Radio Network and Bakhita Radio, the network station in Juba, for their collaboration.
She added that Voice of Peace in incresing its coverage with the setup of a more powerful transmitter and a new antenna to reach other areas of the diocese.
Voice of Peace broadcasts from 8 to 11 AM and from 5 to 9 PM in English, Arabic, Tira and Otoro languages.It has nine permanent staffs, including producers, presenters, translators and a technician. Four students, three girls and a boy, who finished secondary school, are being prepared through in-job training to join the team.
Radio Voice of Peace is part of Sudan Catholic Radio Network.
