Abyei’s occupation by the Sudan Armed Forces has interrupted development in the region.
Kwaja Yai, project coordinator for Abyei Start-up Emergency Project, told Bakhita Radio this morning in Juba that the project was blocked by the recent occupation of Abyei.Mr. Yai added that the Abyei project was approved by the National Assembly in Khartoum before South Sudan’s secession.
He explained that the project was aimed at improving agriculture, health, water and the Abyei administration’s capacity.
Mr. Yai said the project will resume when SAF withdraws and Abyei people return to their home areas.
He concluded that money is still available with the donors and it will be put into use only when the situation normalizes.
