Southern Sudan political parties met today in Juba the SPLM chairman to resolve allegations of harassment pinned against his party.
Political parties have on several occasions accused the SPLM for ordering the army to harass and torture opponents and disrupt opposition rallies in the South.Martin Elia Lomoru, the chairman of Southern Sudan Democratic Forum (SSDF), told the press that SPLM chairman Salva Kiir Mayardit listened to the complaints of political parties of interference in their political work.
He added that Mr. Kiir promised measures against those who stand on the way of political parties in the region.
SPLM secretary general, Pagan Amum, on his part said that during the meeting it was proved that his party is not involved in any activities that undermine the freedom of political parties.
He added the complaints are against commissioners, police and military officers who interfere with opposition political activities.
Mr. Amum said all political parties have the right to exercise their activities without intimidation.
He affirmed that the SPLM is committed to respect the law, the freedoms of the people and the political parties operating in the region.
